ALGIERS Eight people were killed in two attacks blamed on extremists in northwestern Algeria, AFP quoted newspapers as reporting Monday. Six people who were tending their sheep, three of them women, were killed Saturday by an armed group in the Chlef region some 200 kilometers (120 miles) west of Algiers.
The assailants also kidnapped two young girls.
In a forest near Tiaret further west, also Saturday, two other shepherds had their throats slit by a group of about seven or eight men, the reports said.
